What is a fundraising consultant?
A fundraising consultant advises charities and NGOs on income generation; undertaking research, writing evidence-based reports, and helping organisations develop materials to support their fundraising. They can also provide hands-on support with practical fundraising tasks such as outreach, stewarding donors, or bid writing among other things.
What is the difference between a fundraising agency and a freelancer?
A fundraiser is usually an individual as opposed to an organisation. Make Change work with vetted, trusted freelancers and provide them with networks and support to ensure that their engagements are highly successful. We try and make our rates as competitive with freelance rates as possible.
Will you work on a commission basis?
Working on commission is widely considered bad practice including by the Fundraising Regulator and the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, so Make Change do not do it. Our prices are fair and our consultants will give 110% to provide the best ROI.
How much do fundraising consultants charge?
In general consultants charge £250-£1000 a day. Make Change pays our consultants fairly and charges our clients a fair and affordable rate, well below sector average. We know that we find our most value in keeping clients rather than high prices.
How do you set your fees?
At Make Change, we set prices based on a day rate, whether for hands-on support or strategic guidance. For projects, the total cost is determined by the number of days required to complete the work. We provide a clear breakdown in every proposal, detailing each task and the exact number of days allocated to it, ensuring full transparency.
Do we need a consultant contract?
Yes, a consultant contract is essential. It outlines the scope of work, timelines, costs, and expectations, ensuring clarity for both parties. A contract protects your organisation and the consultant by defining responsibilities and deliverables, preventing misunderstandings, and keeping the project on track.
